Comparing before you buy...?

Two fresh red and yellow apples with water droplets on a white background.

Produce that looks the same can taste and measure very differently!

Two apples can look identical — but can deliver very different eating experiences.

Can you tell which apple tastes better than the other? Which measures higher nutrient density than the other?

Fresh produce, grown naturally, varies depending on:

  • Soil health (i.e. appropriate nutrients for the plant or tree?)
  • Growing methods (Industrial vs organic vs 'regenerative')
  • Picking at the right time
  • Time since harvest - freshest is always best!
  • Storage and transport

See here for more info!

Until now, there has been no simple way to compare this — in real time!

For past 200 years, the best 'objective' measure has been...

.. has been the optical refraction.

BRIX meters have been accepted as the best 'objective' measure of produce quality for by Food Scientists and Health Authorities.

The higher the degree of refraction due to the density of liquids, juices, sap, etc., the greater the nutrient density, the more delicious and nutritious the produce!

But this is a messy and time consuming business, not possible to do in a food store or at a Farmer's Market.

But has been used by Australian farmers for past 90 years to improve their crop or grasses qualities by annually improving soil inputs.

More info on BRIX meters and refraction can be found here
