Nx/FGF ( our FindGoodFood system) combo is creating new markets!
When we first started using the SCiO spectrometer in 2017, we realized that fast scanning for BRIX or nutrient density would change the way people found, bought, grew and sold fresh produce.
So, we started building the FindGoodFood website, which allowed anyone to find, buy, sell or share 'good' food, however they wished to define these.
This video was intended to educate city folk whose kids may think that milk comes from a supermarket, about the realties of modern food supply chain.
For past 200 years, BRIX meters have been the best guide ...
... for both farmers and consumers.
BRIX meters (readings and ratings) have been the best 'objective' measure of produce quality for past 200 years, according to food scientists and Health Authorities globally.
The 'average' rating of each produce item (see page 2 of the Nutrimeter.pdf below) is used by ANZ's National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Recommendations and Food Standards ANZ (FSANZ) data to calculate one's Recommended Nutritional Intake (RNI), very similar to USA's Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI).
"Objective" measures of produce quality, of taste, flavor, and nutritional values is a better guide for consumers than certifications of farming methods and practices.
Some would have us believe that general 'sweetness' is better than the unique 'flavour', 'deliciousness' and 'nutritional values' of each variety of produce. We address this issue with Nutrimeter Nxi which measures and compares both Nutrient Density Indices (NDI) and Sugar Content Indices (SCI) to indicate which produce is 'sugar' laden and which is not.
Changes in the Re-definition of Nutrient Density
As farmers, we always believed that phytochemicals were essential for the plant, but not for humans. But this seems to be changing - but phytochemicals are very difficult to easily measure and there are no standards regarding how much of each (and there are many) one needs to balance one's diet or nutrient intakes. Once these are possible, we will create a new Nutrimeter.
Summary about us..
We went 'beyond organics' in 2001, with my wife and son the real farmers, and I the teco (50 yrs IT) in the family. As we were getting 25% better prices for our produce (had twice the nutrient density / BRIX of others) , we knew that people were prepared pay more for quality, not oly for it's taste, but also for higher nutritional or health values..
We think we were the first to introduce BRIX Readings and Ratings in our "Fresh Produce and Organics" store in Trentham, Victoria, Australia in 2010. Consumers said we could not call them BRIX meters as a coffee shop of that name had just opened. They said "Just call them what they do - NutriMeters". So we did as the Customer is always right. "NutriMeter" has now 11 evolutions* since 2010. and been Trade Marked since 2012 .

Below was our last Info sheet in 2017, when we introduced a spectrometer as it measured and rated produce much faster than a BRIX meter, and was far less messy. You simply scan the produce for it's nutrient density and sugar content.
