This video explains the principles of NIR (Near Infra Red) spectroscopy:

• Intense light is emitted to penetrate the surface of produce, and
• read the characteristics of the object.

Nx uses specific "nm" light ranges to read and measure Nutrient Density Indices (NDI) and the Nxi includes Sugar Content Indices (SCI), to 

• compute their values, 
• do the SCI/NDI ratio calculations, and then 
• display the 3  results one after each other.

All this done within a small 3.5x190x25x17 mm container in 4 secs!
